Adopt an artifact

Thank you for your interest in sponsoring an object in our collection. Please note that items remain the property of Muskoka Heritage Place and cannot leave the site.

Artifact donations

Muskoka Heritage Place collections working group meets six times a year to consider all additions to the Museum, Village or Train collections.

Please contact Sara, she's our Collections Coordinator and can help answer any questions about your interest in donating.

The more information an item has, the more useful it is for the collection:

Donation criteria

  • Made or used in Huntsville or Muskoka
  • Made or used before 1910
  • Related to an important world/national/provincial/local event
  • Good condition
  • Number of other examples in the collection

History of the piece

  • Manufacturer: name, location, date(s)
  • Ownership
  • Usage
  • Locations used (lot, concession, address, township, or town)

History of the owners

  • Names, birth, death, marriage, names of parents, children, date of emigration

Stories related to the piece

Current fair market value appraisal needed for tax receipts.

Memberships for Pioneer Village and Train admission during regular hours of operation are available:

  • Adult - One adult card holder $54.00
  • Student - One card holder attending: public school, high school or post-secondary program $41.00
  • Couple/Social - Two adult card holders $105.00
  • Family - Two adult card holders and two children under 17 years $182.00
  • Senior - One senior card holder (55 years and older) $49.00
  • Senior Couple/Social - Two senior card holders (55 years and older) $95.00
  • Senior and then some - Two senior card holders (55 years and older) plus up to two children (3 to 17 years) $171.00

  • Child/Youth - One child/youth pass holder (3 to 17 years) $33.00
  • Student - One pass holder attending: public school, high school or post-secondary program $43.00
  • Senior - One senior pass holder (55 years and older) $43.00
  • Family - Two adult pass holders and two children 3 to 17 years $140.00
  • Social - Two adult pass holders $95.00
  • Senior Social - Two senior pass holders (55 years and older) $85.00

Culture & Heritage Program Coordinator

Volunteer

Muskoka Heritage Place’s dedicated volunteers make our visitors’ experiences a memorable one! If you have a passion for local history, enjoy engaging in conversation with people, like working in a fast-paced team environment, and have a desire to contribute to heritage, then volunteering at MHP may be right for you. 

What kind of roles are there?

You may choose a narrative role such as a historical narrator or demonstrator in our Pioneer Village.

There are volunteer opportunities at our rail operations narrating as:

  • Conductor
  • Station Master
  • Engineer
  • Fireman

Other volunteer positions include general site maintenance, rail mechanic, data entry, archival work, exhibit development, and more!

Have a talent for music? Perform in the village or at the train station!
